The Union des Entreprises Luxembourgeoises includes the professional chambers and employer federations
Established in 1939, the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL) is the oldest and largest professional association in the financial sector, representing the majority of financial institutions as well as regulated financial intermediaries and other professionals established in Luxembourg, including lawyers, consultants and auditors working in or for the financial sector.
The Association des Compagnies d’Assurances et de Réassurances (ACA) is an organisation whose mission is to protect and develop the business interests and study issues of interest to its members as well as improving the services provided to the public.
The ACA seeks to establish ongoing links between insurance companies so as to facilitate the investigation of any issues that may be of interest to their business. It also aims to examine legislative, legal, administrative, technical, business, financial, corporate and tax issues affecting the profession.
As a professional chamber and public institution encompassing all sectors of business other than agriculture and crafts (Chambre des Métiers), the Chamber of Commerce sees its rationale and role as guardian of the interests of its member companies. Since these may in some cases pursue divergent sectorial interests, the Chamber of Commerce, in a spirit of fairness to all its members, sees its primary mission in the articulation, representation and defence of the interests of all its members. Sectorial interests are only pursued if they do not conflict with the interests of the other member companies of the Chamber. Today, the Chamber of Commerce has some 90,000 affiliated members, accounting for 75% of total employment and representing 80% of GDP. Contributions from members constitute the principal financial resource of the Chamber of Commerce. Therefore, the Chamber enjoys financial autonomy.
The Luxembourg Chambre des Métiers (Chamber of Trades) is a professional chamber whose main aims are to represent and defend the interests of the skilled trade sector in Luxembourg. As an institution, it acts as spokesperson for some 7,300 businesses operating in the food, fashion and hygiene sectors, the mechanical engineering sector, the construction, structural engineering and finishing sectors, the building and technical equipment sector, the telecommunications and multimedia sector and a variety of arts and crafts businesses. These sectors employ more than 91,000 people and are currently training some 1,700 apprentices. The skilled trades represent a major sector of the domestic economy with 22% of the total number of companies and 23% of total jobs. It is therefore the largest employer in Luxembourg and the largest training organisation.
The confédération luxembourgeoise du commerce (clc – Luxembourg Trade Confederation) is an employer organisation for private companies at the heart of the country’s economy and history, representing federations and independent companies established in Luxembourg from the retail, transportation and services sectors, which number 11,000 businesses and represent more than 22% of GDP and employee 60,000 people.
The clc acts as a representative body to decision-makers and the public authorities. It plays a role in labour relations as it assumes a number of functions in all areas of companies’ day-to-day operations, serving specific common interests. The clc, thanks to its close relationships with the business world and ability to identify pragmatic, bespoke solutions, is a trusted adviser.
The Fédération Nationale des Hôteliers, Restaurateurs et Cafetiers du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (Horesca – National Federation of Hotels, Restaurants and Catering) is the official channel for all State, political, administrative and private bodies when it comes to defending the interests of the HoReCa sectors. It represents some 2,900 businesses established in Luxembourg, from the smallest cafe to the largest hotel.
In addition to acting as a representative, Horesca assists its members in resolving their professional issues and provides them with the documents and information needed for the effective organisation of their business.
